Sacred Geometry of a Gratitude Ball
"God ever geometrises"
Plato
Let's take a look at the St Ives Bay Gratitude Ball as an example.

In creating this painting I first created what I call an energy template, consisting of a capture of the "energy of the moment". Often the Golden Proportion - also known as Phi (Φ) - for some reason, emerges in this process. The results of this can manifest visually as the curvature and exponential spirals of the Fibonacci sequence.
I don't try to do this, it all happens spontaneously, without any planning. I paint what is harmonious and in balance with the energies of my location. In fact, I clear my mind of all irrelevant thought to allow the painting to take place. Thinking equals wobbling. The brush effectively moves by itself, confident as it is in the decades of shape drawing I have done before.
If I try to judge the picture or predict the next move I would completely tangle myself up. I have to get out of my own way. To 'let go and let God', as the saying go. (Though whether it is myself or God creating these pictures is a question for the philosophers). My job is to be present and empty, in tune to everything about me and to let the picture flow out of me.

Let's begin simply with the Golden Ratio itself. Its proportions appear here immediately in this picture as the positioning for the 2 of the three primary circle. The first, shown above, is a near perfect expression of Φ, not only in its position, but also in its size.

The Golden Ratio also positions the largest of the circles on this Gratitude Ball. Indeed, it is expressed throughout its form, in what is beginning to look like a spiral...

The Fibonacci spiral can be found in the primary motif in this picture.

Moving in the opposite direction is a second Fibonacci spiral, focused upon the same circle.

These spirals, it turns out, are offset by 108 degrees.

108 degrees, it turns out, is the internal angle of the pentagon. It is regarded as the most sacred of all numbers. Indeed, within sacred geometry, the pentagon is regarded as the shape of life (which is why, by the way, the inverted form of a pentagon is used as a dark side symbol - it represents the opposite of life). Since the dark side is so prevalent in modern culture, many people instinctively associate the pentagon with darkness, but this is not backed up by sacred geometry. God produced the pentagon, in a act of formidable genius, the like of which nobody has since been able to compete with. The best the dark side could manage was to turn this brilliance upside down, an act of inversion almost as lacking in genius as that first act of creation was full of genius. The genius of the pentagon is a topic for a full discussion!
Not only did God create the pentagon, but he created the Golden Proportion, which is contained within the pentagon, as we will see. And the Golden Proportion, as Leonardo da Vinci so succinctly expressed in his Vitruvian Man, is the foundation of all life.

The primary motif in this picture, created by the two intersecting Fibonacci spirals, is symmetrically contained within the highlighted triangle of the pentagon.

From the primary motif a Golden Gnomon intersects the other 2 main circles, extending the symmetry, which is further balanced by two side circles.
"If it's symmetrical, it's not a Love Ball"
Sam
Sam exclaimed this to me one day! And he was right. His insight was critical and of great value to me. The Love Ball, like us, is not symmetrical. And in that lies its essence. Perhaps it is the same with love itself. It is not formulaic, can't be weaponised and one love does not fit all. It is alive and personal. Rather like us.
Which brings us to the asymmetry...

And the order of three.

Forming an equilateral triangle...

And opposed by a second triangle composed of the 3 main circles... 3 + 3 = ?

A hexagon! Bringing us back to symmetry. Which makes sense, since the Gratitude Ball is an expression of dynamic opposition in a state of equilibrium.

There are more sacred patterns hidden within this Gratitude Ball, I've simply picked out some of the more obvious ones!

And so we come full circle! Returning to the Gratitude Ball in its full glory, as the hidden geometry falls away. But now - for those with eyes to see - a beautiful second layer of existence is revealed, a substructure of sacred number and geometry.
To incorporate all this into the Gratitude Ball would be impossible for me working alone. Fortunately, these pictures are not created by me alone. My technical skills are required, but the spark and wisdom comes from the highest source of all. My main job, as I've said, is to get myself out the way, to funnel the love that is coming in into the painting!
The power of the Gratitude Ball as both a work of art and as an energy template lies, I think, in the extraordinary sacred geometry at the heart of each of these sacred pictures.
What brings all this to life for me, however, is the music which Rebecca composes to accompany each Gratitude Ball. She composes based upon all those same currents and emotions that she senses in the land about. She too turns that into structure! And what is music, if not sacred geometry to the ears?
We hope you will enjoy the finished film...
